It has been a while since I have shared a tonic recipe and the winter time is when I create, drink and share these with friends the most. Adrenal fatigue can be created by our stressful and unbalanced lifestyles. It can range from overly stimulation foods, caffeine, media, physical activities and overall not handling ones daily life in a way that is wellness centered.

Here is my attempt to quickly and clearly explain what exactly is adrenal fatigue.

Adrenal Fatigue often creates lower levels of numberous hormones and neurotransmitters, creating changes that can affect every single part of your body. Every individual with adrenal fatigue tends to have slightly set symptoms, it will be a bit different for each of us.

You can split up adrenal fatigue symptoms into two main sets. The most common symptoms are those that are experienced by most (if not all) adrenal fatigue sufferers. These include symptoms like fatigue and food cravings. Then there are the less common symptoms, which are only experienced by a smaller set of patients. These include low blood pressure and frequent urination. Due to frequent urination and the flushing of essential minerals, cravings for salty foods and processed foods may occur.

Adrenal fatigue may create cravings for salty foods, troubles sleeping, hormonal imbalances (lack of empathy, lack of anxiety), overuse of sugar and caffeine, and weakened immune system.

Today I share a brew to nourish your sweet little adrenals with a warming herbal blend including ginger, turmeric, ashwagandha, maca, chaga, and he shou wu. This has a comforting hot chocolate feel due to the nutty carob powder and rich cacao with a bit of a kick from cayenne. It is silky smooth and feels just right xo! I have shared tonic recipes in the past but was asked this time around to do one that has a milk base instead of a tea base. If you are looking for more information on Chinese herbs, I have several previous posts discussing them but here is a great one to start with.

Dash of cayenne

Dash of Salt

Roughly 2-4 drops of your preferred sweetener, I like stevia drops or using homemade date paste

Add all ingredients into your blender, or shaker, blend/shake until smooth & when you can see some volume has been created. Optional, may be you lightly warm this up and or use a foam wand. For me, my blender already warms this up just enough but please make this the way that serves you best.

Please take your time. Enjoy each sip. Notice the flavors. Textures. The smell each time your cup hovers over your nose. Carefully, graciously hold your medicine cup and let this experience be completely for you.
